Long Koto Sword in Handachi Mounts
Signature:  Mumei.
Year Made:  Koto

Forging Pattern: Mokume.
Tempering Pattern: Midare in nie.
Dimensions:  Blade Length:  27.3 inches  Nakago: 7.5 inches 6 mm thick and 30 mm wide at Hamachi
Mountings:  Handachi mounts in shakudo, black lacquered saya with missing ishizuke in decent shape. Ito on tsuka has been untied and re-tied possibly to remove the menuki which are missing, High quality samé which had been pieced together at some point. Silver foil covered habaki in decent shape. Fuchi seems to be missing it's bottom plate.
Overall Condition:  Fair, Sword, including nakago has been cleaned at some point, has nicks and ware in the kissaki. Sword in hand, there appears to be a full boshi but difficult to photograph. A small window was lightly polished, showing a very nice and prominent mokume hada and activity in the hamon. It is a very well forged sword with nothing to speak of in the way of ware or flaws of any size for a sword of its age. It is graceful and light and an ubu sword. Would make a great restoration project or an absolutely wonderful sword for use in iai. The hamon comes close to the ha in places but looks to us as if it would take a polish.
